about matiz

Matiz (mah.teez), meaning hue in the Spanish language, designs artisanal work that respects and preserves the indigenous traditions of handmade textiles. We work directly with our artisans to bring you high-quality, small-batch rugs, committed to using locally sourced materials from Teotitlan del Valle, Oaxaca. We encourage our team to set their own wages and support them by allowing them to create and continue their craft for generations. Each handmade piece is the result of a careful production process, and we only hope that you can appreciate your one-of-a-kind purchase.

Meet the artisans

Located in the town of Teotitlan del Valle, our team continues to practice the traditional methods of rug making, a process that has been passed down for the past four generations. Each individual brings a wealth of knowledge, hard working hands, and the goal of creating beautiful, timeless creations. The end results are rugs that bring value and happiness to others lives, just as much as it does to them.

the process

Using the natural and local resources, we are able to create one of a kind dyes, pigments, hues, and saturations, all with minimal waste and no carbon footprint.
